THE LEBANESE IN AMERICA

Coming from their small, poor mountain villages, from the 1880s on, Lebanese immigrants illustrated the ideal "American success story." This book explains the reasons for their emigration, along with their roads to riches in the new country and their outstanding accomplishments. The early Lebanese immigrants included many women and young girls, who worked hard as peddlers--a striking contrast with the "secluded" image of Middle Eastern women. You'd probably be surprised how many prominent Americans have Lebanese origins: people in politics and public affairs, medicine, entertainment, industry, business, real estate, scholarship, and much more. And then there are those wonderful Lebanese restaurants!
