Some comments about the Griffin...

"Elsa charmed us with CYNTHIA...and does so again with A GRIFFIN IN THE GARDEN. Her imagination and wit are matched this time by Daste's humorous and handsome illustrations." (Robert Hale, review)

"I like this book. It's very funny." (young critic, International School in Stuttgart)

"I've had to read this story to my daughter about a thousand times." (a mother in Indiana)

"I know this book by heart. My grandsons make me read it every time I see them." (Robert Hale, personal comment)

A GRIFFIN IN THE GARDEN

...Look what the storm blew in!...

Gregory is just trying to prepare a surprise for his mom--a lovely rock garden in the back yard--when a bedraggled griffin settles down on it. But is that griffin really as tired and sore as it pretends to be? Persuading the critter to move on to another rocky lair isn't easy. Gregory tries one tactic after another . . . and finally discovers the secret.

SOME QUESTIONS TO TALK ABOUT . . .

What would you do if you found a griffin in your back yard?

Is it sometimes possible to be TOO kind to people?

What do you think Gregory learns from his problem with the griffin?
